Is India a matured democracy, is a question that had been lurking in the minds of most of Indians till General Elections 2014. 16 May 14 has ruled out all misconceptions, misnomers and wrong notions about the maturity of Indian voter. Today, we feel proud to say that the Indian voter has really matured and has risen above caste, colour, creed and religion. Afterall, Indians want transition into 21st century. Therefore, if I may put it correctly, May16 is a great day in the history of India.
All our political pundits have been proved wrong, this time. Prediction about polarisation of votes has been set aside for the first time as is evident from clear mandate for one single political party or alliance branded as non secular by all opponents in unison. Our matured voter has realised that religion alone will do no good to the Indian society. They want GEETA or KORAN in one hand and LAPTOP in other, they want development, they want inflation to be controlled, they want transition from developing country into a developed one. That is why lethargic UPA Govt failed to feel the pulse of our people and landed up losing miserably, thereby making history. Even messiahs of dalits, minorities and aam aadmi also mis calculated the mood of the electorate and failed beyond imagination. They all need to do a lot of home work next time.
Indians this time voted for Modi and not for the BJP alone despite all criticism and bickering by opponents. This election saw the lowest ebb of personal attacks and counter attacks basically hitting below the belt. Despite all this, people gave thumping majority to Modi. Therefore, is this an indication, in some way, for India for heading towards Presidential form of governance? I leave this as a food for thought.
Young voters were hallmark of this election and it is a thing to rejoice as they can not be fooled anymore by our so called clever politicians by false promises and expectations. This time it has been proved beyond doubt that the Govt has to perform to survive. 'Aya ram gaya rams' like Aam aadmi party has no role in today's transitional politics unless they themselves reform. Stupid gimmicks won't yield any results. Even Team Modi has an up hill task for meeting expectations of people of India.
